The Chairmans Gavel goes to the Chairmans lodge

The host of the Chairman’s Travelling Gavel is now Leyland St Andrews Lodge No 7391 and it was presented to Trevor Brooks, Worshipful Master following an excellent Initiation ceremony.

This lodge is also the Group’ Chairman’s lodge and he stated that he ‘didn’t anticipate seeing it so soon following the inaugural presentation back in October 2014’. On that night Stewart Seddon, along with a number of group officers, presented the gavel to Leyland Hesketh Lodge No 986. This evening it was the turn of 5 visitors, including Alistair Milner the Worshipful Master, from Eccleston Lodge No 7754 to present the gavel to Leyland St Andrews lodge.

The evenings’ meeting was also one for new members and, along with 2 re-joining members each following a lengthy absence, there was an Initiation of a candidate.

Trevor opened the lodge comfortably before handing over the Initiation ceremony to Howard Lilley who conducted the Initiation of Marc Wolverson with aplomb. Jeff Lucas gave an excellent rendition of the Charge after Initiation and Marc took a seat in the lodge. Howard handed the lodge back to Trevor as master of the lodge before he was presented with the gavel by Alistair Milner. Trevor thanked the members of Eccleston lodge for visiting and for hosting the gavel over the festive period. He said he ‘looked forward to taking care of the gavel on this its’ next stage of the journey’.

All members of Leyland St Andrews and their visitors had enjoyed the evening and they were treated to an excellent 1st degree ceremony, welcoming Marc into freemasonry in superb fashion.  The festive board followed the lodge meeting and it was held in very convivial surroundings of Wellington Park where good camaraderie was enjoyed by all.

The next stop for the gavel will be with Patrick Martindale, Worshipful Master of Euxton Lodge No 7192.
