The travelling gavel made an appearance over at Leyland Masonic Hall recently when it was handed over to White Hills Lodge No 5209.
The Worshipful Master of Carnarvon Lodge 2376, Richard Griffiths, along with five of the Brethren paid a visit to White Hills lodge for their March meeting with the purpose of passing on the Chairman’s Travelling Gavel.
John Lewis, Worshipful Master of White Hills opened the lodge and exacted the business with aplomb. This was to be a very special night too for one of the White Hills members as the next part of the ceremony was to raise Christopher Wilson to the degree of a Master Mason. All members and visitors alike were treated to an excellent ceremony where the Worshipful Master was ably assisted by David Swift and Paul Boardman – the Wardens and Deacons of the lodge playing their parts in the ceremony too.
As the lodge was being closed the Worshipful Master of Carnarvon lodge rose from his seat and stepped forward. He asked whether he had permission to approach the WM’s pedestal so that he could deliver the Travelling Gavel into safe keeping for the next part of the journey. At this Richard, whose Carnarvon lodge’ colleagues had lined up behind him, gave greetings on behalf of all the visitors and exclaimed that they had all witnessed a wonderful ceremony. He duly handed on the gavel having read a short history of the gavel.
Once the meeting was closed all members and visitors made their way to the dining room where a sumptuous and most enjoyable festive board was appreciated by all. The camaraderie was excellent and we now look forward to the next stage of the Travelling Gavel‘s journey around the Leyland Group.
